ABOUT THE DESTINATION
NWU High Performance Institute (HPI) of Sport is located on the campus area of the North-West University in Potchefstroom, at a 1.5-hour drive from Johannesburg, South Africa. The NWU HPI is a preferred high-altitude training base for many international and national athletes/teams - 1,322m above sea level.
Potchefstroom can offer track athletes two outdoor athletics tracks: NWU 400m grass track with synthetic surfaces for field events and the PUK McArthur Stadium which has a 400m synthetic track.
The NWU grass track offers synthetic surfaces for all jumping (long jump, triple jump, high jump, and pole vault) and throwing events (discus, hammer, javelin, and shot put). At NWU, athletes can also find a high-performance gym, an AlterG machine, and recovery facilities.
PUK McArthur Stadium is located at a 3km distance from NWU and has facilities/equipment to host all jumping, running, and throwing events. Outside of the McArthur stadium, routes for road running can be found.
Please contact a training camp Host for further details about training facility access.
